While I wish New England were having better weather so I can fry myself tan, I’m happy to be back in the Northeast, where I can drive two hours North for a hike, or two hours South for a beach day. However, regardless of rain or shine, I wanted to curate a RANDOM list of things I believe to be In and Out this Summer. I figured this would be a good way to get back into writing, as I've taken a good three weeks since being in Greece.
So, here is my short n’ simple INS n OUTS of Summer:
In:
Electrolytes
“For the girls” podcasts
Check out my earlier posts on my favorite podcasts
Slow days
Embrace a bit of that European (we all have in us).
Matcha
I think it’s amazing, calming, and energizing
I have a matcha recipe …. Ask me if you want ;)
Bronzing skincare
Skincare is the focus, makeup is for fun. Products for glowing skin:
Seeking discomfort
Ask yourself, “What’s the worst that can happen?”
Watch YES THEORY on YouTube for inspiration…
Doing it for your future self
If you are unsure about something, think about whether your future self would do it, and who do you want to embrace. I will be doing an entire workshop on this idea soon ;)
All shades of sage green
Personal favorites: olive sage, dark sage, earth sage, mossy sage.
Rustic wood accents
A natural element in a modern living world.
Picnics
Grab some wine (or Wynks), a deck of cards, a loaf of HiRise Sourdough, and some schmear, and sit yourself on a beautiful blanket cushioned by the plushest plot of grass you can find.
Social cigs
It’s Summer…. let ‘s keep those European vibes going with a cig and a social sip.
Natural wine
A newer enjoyment of mine, I like the funky taste and story behind each blend.
Polka dots
A lover turned hater turned back to lover of polka dots… at least for now.
frolicking
Preferably in the countryside, but cobblestone streets work too if you can find them.
Sticking to the plan, not the mood
Thank me later
Being nude (when appropriate)
This just feels like a perfect Summer thing… ya know?
Spontaneous adventures
GO ON THAT ROAD TRIP TO IKEA! Take the ferry to Provincetown! Drive to Bangor and pitch a tent!
Learning a new skill or hobby
I’m starting to learn Japanese for my job!
Out:
Being inside
I don’t care if it’s pouring rain or boiling hot, be outside.
Collective phone scrolling
There is nothing I dislike more than hanging out with a bunch of people on for everyone to be on their phones, interacting with anything but each other.
“Playing it safe”
Be responsible in your actions, but take a risk! Go on that date, take that dance class, idk lift a heavier dumbbell than you usually do!
Metalware
In regards to both homeware and jewelry. Summer has a feminine energy, and metal is a very masculine element… they just don’t mesh in that way.
Waiting for the walk-sign
Unless you are in Copenhagen (which would be really cool if this blog reached there!), just be smart about J-walking. The lights in Boston are always so unpredictable and usually hate to help out the pedestrians.
Risking the parking ticket
Kind of like the shopping cart theory, but just take that extra step in finding a legitimate parking spot — morals lads!
Vaping
This is such a bad habit for your health, and it also looks so cringy seeing people rip a rainbow box of nicotine. Either quick (ideal) or get a pack of cigs.
Excuses
Be honest. That’s all.
Over accessorizing
Aside from Coachella (which already happened), no one needs to be wearing three belts.
Nail biting
Whoops, legit doing this simultaneously while writing, but I need to stop because it’s not cute nor hygienic… there is a better way to deal with anxiety and nerves.
Plaid patterned (shirts and pants)
This pattern is giving winter…
Bejeweled nails
Why are people trying to do the most with every element of their outfit, just keep your nails simple and functional please and thank you!
Obvious makeup
While I can appreciate those who are talented in intricate eye makeup and bold lips, the warmer weather melts that art away too quickly to make it worth it. Plus, natural is better in my opinion.
Traffic
I simply cannot.
Comfort shows
Summer is not for hibernating, so either put on a new series, go to the theaters, or ritualize your evening around Love Island US.
Eating mediocre meals out
Make a home-cooked meal yourself or splurge ;)
Hot Yoga
It’s already hot outside, save this movement for colder days.
Dirty dishes in the sink
The easiest feel-good chore.
